Springwell Lake, Rickmansworth: access and habitat improvements
The site
A popular coarse fishing lake with a path that circumnavigates, allowing access for all.
The brief
A joint project was undertaken by Three Valleys Water and Groundwork Trust Thames Valley to construct new and improve existing access areas and enhance the wetland habitat.
The solution
Using a combination of boardwalks, causeways (raised sections of path) and platforms the access route has been upgraded.
Tree surgery works, included willow pollarding and coppicing, poplar crown reductions as well as other tree safety works adjacent to the pathways.
Digging out of new ponds, reed bed management and invasive vegetation clearance.
The result
A sustainable, safe and pleasant environment has been created for all users of the lake.
