St Albans: agricultural fencing

The site

The estate stands just outside St. Albans in Hertfordshire. The house was designed by the architect Robert Taylor in the 1770s, and the family has lived there ever since.

The brief

To supply and install several types of fencing around the estate, and to assist in the re-creation of the parkland to its original form of 1840.

The solution

We erected over 6,000 metres of agricultural post and wire fencing with 35 gates and 11 horse jumps. There were many other people also working on the estate, thus it was important for Maydencroft Rural to be as considerate as possible, to ensure that our plans and our operatives' work remained flexible, while making sure that this didn't stop us hitting our deadlines.

Our materials were carefully sourced - the wire for the agricultural fencing was from Sheffield and the wood was sourced from English sawmills rather than imported from abroad. This meant we were able to use local suppliers while keeping the project as cost effective as possible.

The result

The key to success in a job such as this is using the very best machinery.  We had recently invested in new fencing equipment including a Unimog, Wrag post driver and a 'Quickfencer' which sped up the process and created a finished article of the very highest quality.
