Kent carriage gaps

The kent carriage gap is a structure designed for restricted byways or on a bridleways where the landowner has given permission for carriages, but is concerned that the path might be used by unauthorised motor vehicles. It allows access for all users except for motor vehicles.

The kent carriage gap consists of a pair of bollards, 330 mm to 380 mm high, 1520 mm apart, with a clear space of at least 600 mm wide outside one or both of the bollards. Any remaining space either side of the bollards, up to banks or fences, can be restricted with taller bollards.
