Ickleford village: new burial ground construction

The site

The creation of a new 'all faiths' burial ground for Ickleford village, Hertfordshire's Village of the Year 2006.

The brief

From a greenfield site; to construct a new entrance, car park, boundary fence and hedge, trees and shrubs and a network of paths.

The solution

With multiple teams working on this large-scale project, we tackled many of the elements of the project simultaneously. The fencing team led by Dobromir Berej, installed the post and rail fencing and bespoke oak gates, which were especially commissioned for the entrance. The groundwork team, managed by Paul Beatty, were responsible for all the civil engineering works. The landscape team, planting all the hedges was managed by Digger Cooke-Hurle.

The result

A beautiful new burial ground with a network of paths weaving throughout trees and a woodland walk, sensitively complementing its rural setting. A wonderful new asset to the village.
