The Alban Way: cycle path widening
The site
The Alban Way is a cycle path in Hertfordshire, England that has been constructed along the route of the former Hatfield to St Albans railway line.
The brief
To carry out vegetation clearance along the entire length of the Alban Way.
The solution
We utilised two teams in a limited timescale to widen the path and give it more head room. All selected trees were felled, sided up or had their crowns lifted and all branches around lamp columns were removed to give more light. A target of a 1 metre verge either side of the path for long term maintenance was to be achieved.
The result
The cycle path now benefits from a clear route running 12 km from St Albans to Hatfield.
